Mozilla Firefox is a FREE and open-source web browser developed by the Mozilla Foundation and its subsidiary, the Mozilla Corporation.

The Benefits of Using Firefox

There are at least two benefits to using Firefox:

Better Privacy

Mozilla Firefox is widely considered to be more private than Google Chrome (Private Internet Access, 2025); (NordVPN, 2024); (Cloudwards.net, 2025); (What Is My IP Address, 2025); (WebProNews, 2025); (ExpressVPN Blog, 2024).

That is because Mozilla, the organization behind Firefox, is a non-profit foundation, which positions its mission toward prioritizing user interests, including privacy, over profit-driven data collection (Reflections, 2025); (NordVPN, 2024); (WebProNews, 2025); (ExpressVPN Blog, 2024).

Firefox comes with Enhanced Tracking Protection (ETP) enabled by default (Private Internet Access, 2025); (NordVPN, 2024); (Firefox, n.d.). This feature automatically blocks a wide range of common trackers, including third-party cookies, social media trackers (on sites like Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn), cryptominers, and digital fingerprinting scripts (Private Internet Access, 2025); (NordVPN, 2024); (Reflections, 2025).

When a user syncs data across devices, Firefox encrypts the data locally using an encryption key that remains on the user's device before sending the encrypted data to Mozilla's servers, meaning Mozilla cannot decrypt the user's private sync data (Reflections, 2025).

Reliable Ad Blocking

Firefox supports plugins like uBlock Origin and AdGuard AdBlocker that will effectively block ads on the web, while other web browsers are killing off ad blockers.

Google Chrome, for example, is transitioning its extension platform from Manifest V2 (MV2) to Manifest V3 (MV3), thereby depricating the powerful webRequest API, which allowed extensions to intercept and block ads.

This move to cripple content blockers, is Google's attempt at protecting their core business: advertising revenue. (Adtoniq, 2019)

Installing Add-ons

Firefox's default feature set can be extended for FREE by simply installing add-ons directly from the official Firefox Add-ons website.

🔴 PopUpOFF which removes and prevents popups, overlays and cookie notifications from appearing.

Installing Themes

Firefox also supports a variety of themes and color schemes.

To change the theme, click the hamburger menu button (three horizontal lines to the top right), and select 'Extensions and themes'.

In the 'Themes' section, click the 'Enable' button below the theme of your choice.

Managing Bookmarks

To bookmark a page, single-left-click the star icon in the overhead address bar, or alternatively use the appropriate hotkey.

To view your bookmarks, click the Bookmarks button (looks like two overlapping stars) in the overhead toolbar.

Downloading Firefox

To download Mozilla Firefox, visit the official website at mozilla.org/firefox.

Click the 'Download Firefox' button on the homepage.

Once the download is complete, run the installer file.

Follow the installation wizard, accepting the default settings unless you have specific preferences.

Firefox will automatically launch after installation. You can start browsing the web immediately.

Troubleshooting

If Firefox becomes slow or unresponsive, try clearing your cache and cookies through Settings > Privacy & Security > Cookies and Site Data > Clear Data.

If Firefox crashes frequently, ensure you're using the latest version by checking for updates in Settings > General > Firefox Updates.

For persistent issues, you can restart Firefox in Safe Mode by holding the Shift key while starting the browser.
